For the thousands of people who experience homelessness in Indianapolis each year, the Horizon House provides safe shelter and resources along with compassion and respect. Teresa Wessel, executive director, is changing how society thinks about and treats people experiencing homelessness.
The Horizon House offers overnight accommodations, showers, and laundry, as well as employment and health resources. Individuals can get the immediate assistance they need plus resources to help them build a future. Above all, they are treated with kindness and understanding. “There are so many reasons why someone becomes homeless,” Wessel told WTHR, so she is “not judging someone and truly just helping.”
Teresa Wessel earned her B.S. in Business from the IU Kelley School of Business in 1982.
